Our History

In 2006 a picturesque cottage resort on an island in the Bay of Quinte was purchased and became home for a man who was homeless, along with a retired pastor.  From that time forward, Kate’s Rest has been a place where many dozens of people who were homeless or in immediate danger of becoming so, have found a place to call home and an affirming community of support.

Our community at Kate’s Rest celebrates the many strengths and skills that each of us has to offer, as we explore ways of providing leadership and innovation in our municipality.  Once we have our basic needs of food and shelter met, we are free to explore what talents and interests we have brought with us that we can share with others.

Kate’s Rest has provided food, permanent supportive housing, community, transportation, educational opportunities, skills development, and so much more, for almost 20 years.  We receive funding from foundations, service clubs, corporations, and individuals. In 2021, we became a registered charity in order to ensure that we sustain and can expand our efforts to meet future goals.
